Iraq Railways Role As Port Operations Resume At Umm Qasr
In February 2009 the Iraqi Railway took a leap forward when DHL160 (one of 12 Type DH12000 locomotives supplied by Tülomsas of Turkey in 2004 and 2005) picked up cargo from Camp Taji for delivery to the port of Umm Qasr.
This was the first time this cargo spur had been used in five years and was an important step in linking together Iraq Railways, Iraqi trucking and Iraqi port services as the country continues re-building.
Iraq Railways represents a key piece of the country's transport infrastructure and will play a major role as Iraq takes advantage of its geographic position to become a hub for moving cargo from UmmQasr port to Jordan, Syria and Turkey.
