The state company of Iraqi Railway is an economical establishment and symbol which contributed and contributed in the economical, civilization and social development of Iraq through the following activities :-

Transportation of the travelers between the centers of cities and eighboring countries with different degree
 

Transportation of goods between the center of cities, industrial centers, sea ports and neighbors countries .
 

Implementation of operation, maintenance and rehabilitate general series for the motive units, lines, signals, communication and machine .
 

Implementation of a big number of projects which targets in the future to rise the efficiency of the Railways and increase their speeds .

Processing of economical, technical and detailed studies for a big number of large projects .

Training and development of staff and studies of the company to improve their technical and administrational skill in Railway institute and out of the company .

Starting the work of constructing first Iraqi Railway in 1912 between Baghdad and Al-Issehaqi and first trip was in June 1914 and the forming of the state company for Iraqi Railways underwent several stages till it reached it’s current status and the last big and advanced projects was Baghdad-Al qaam - Oqushat which finished in 1983 and Kiruk-Beji-Hadith which finished in 1987, both lines were with speed of 250 Km/Hr and load of 25 ton.
